Fortress of the Gate of Seville-The day that we went to LaRambla to go pottery shopping, we passed what looked like a fort or castle along the road. We decided that on our way home from pottery shopping that we would stop and investigate this castle. We didn’t have a map, didn’t know where we were going or even what it was we were looking for, but we managed to find the exit that took us to this “place”. (more…)

The boys and I just returned from a seminar on the Semana Santa in Spain. We will be attending one of these parades in Jerez, so we wanted to find out the origin of this traditional parade and the practices that go along with it. The floats in the larger cities, Sevilla & Cadiz, are most impressive because they tend to have more money to decorate them. They are adorned with pure gold, silver and even diamonds. They start making the preparations for this Holy Week parade in early February. (more…)

A small group of us went to a little town called La Rambla one Saturday. This town is known for all of its pottery and ceramic shops (warehouses). We parked our car and just walked down one street from shop to shop observing all of the wonderful ceramic pieces. We were there a couple of hours and didn’t go thru all of the shops. We went for window boxes, but didn’t see any that we liked. We did, however, manage to pick up a few odds and ends at remarkably low prices. While our group had lunch at a local venta, we ate our peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in the car and continued to look in more of the shops. It was nice to have Geiner, a Spanish speaking friend, along with us so he could translate for us.
