Welcome to Bitche!

Monday, December 15th, 2008

We found ourselves driving into the first town that we came along to on our excursion to “somewhere in France”. It was Bitche.
We went to the tourism office to see what there was to see and do in this small town. The lady behind the counter gave us a friendly, “Welcome to Bitche!” I had thought that maybe, just maybe the town’s name was pronounced- Bitchay- sounded French to me, but no, it was in fact pronounced just as it was, Bitche (silent e) The lady kept telling us of all the events and attractions of Bitche (she kept saying that word over and over) but unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and all attractions were closed on Mondays.
We settled on window shopping and finding a pastry shop to satisfy our need for famous french pastries… they are, in fact, as mouth watering and as wonderful as they are famous for. Check out more photos by clicking on the photo tab at the top of this page then double click on Bitche, France album to see all that we saw there.
I did find a wonderful cup (for my collection) and when we are asked about our trip to France… we just smile and say, “It was a Bitche!”

Quaint German town

Monday, December 1st, 2008

We started off our travels this year (yea, I know I am way behind in posting) in Jan with a trip to Germany so Charlie could have PRK eye surgery. We figured we might as well make it a family trip because he needed someone to take care of him while he recovered after surgery- and oh yea- he couldn’t see to drive- that was a biggie. We arrived the day before his surgery and decided to go exploring. We thought we would hop on over to France as it was only an hr drive or so from where we were staying (for those of you who know me- It was really just so I could get a France coffee cup for my collection). This first set of pictures are of a German town that we had to pass thru on the road to France. We saw the church and had to stop and take pictures - I don’t even know the name of the town or the church. Check out the rest of the photos by clicking on the “photos” tab above.

Issues??? me-well, maybe

When I started this blog site for family and friends so they could keep up to date on the happenings and travels of the Goodson household, I was so excited….. I tried to keep up with the postings of our travels in pictures. Life has a way of getting in the way- homeschooling my two teenage sons is my main focus and then add on to that every day activities, not to mention really slow to no internet connections at certain times during the day makes it a challenge.

I also have this “issue” (a friend, thanks Becky, so graciously pointed out in her blog) that I have this need to go “in order” of when we took the pictures…. I also have this need to fill in information about where we went and some history about the place (this takes research and much time)- so long story short- I haven’t kept up with my posting because I dreaded the research time that it takes to write about a certain area.

I have tried to rekindle the excitement in sharing our travels with whomever is interested in viewing them- I am going to rebel against myself and just continue to post them in random order (I do post the dates we went on the trip) so you might see some pics from last year pop up now and again. We have been blessed to have seen so many places during our short time here. I will also post where we went and if you want to do more research on your own, feel free (I encourage it!)

I have posted several different albums over the past couple of months (including the boys pictures of the mission trip to Czech Republic)- just haven’t written anything about them- so please continue to go to the photo page to see what has been updated.

I just added an album today of one of our many trips to Arcos. It is such a beautiful town. We went one Saturday morning in search of birthday gift for Charlie’s mom- we had a wonderful time just strolling through the streets looking for that “special gift”. As we have taken so many pics of Arcos on previous trips, these photos are mainly of our family in various places along the way.
